Spread the good news:  The majority (6 of the 8) of the Canadian Rockies Golf partner courses are open and welcoming golfers today, a quick recovery from last month’s temporary flooding.

Waters have receded and recovery came quickly.   Sunshine has helped dry courses and return terrific playing conditions.  We hope our fans support those six courses by playing a round or two in July or August, starting at $174 with golf and room. Erase the flooded courses from your mind, and replace it with the photo you see here.

The better news:   our Canadian Rockies Golf courses are truly partners.  When it got tough, they banded together to help each other recover quickly.  There is no competition in tragedy, only community.

Darren Cooke, Director of Golf for Canmore Golf & Curling Club, is a prime example.  Here’s an excerpt, posted from the Canmore Leader:

The Club played a strong role in offering support to the community in a number of ways: Providing almost 150 meals for families displaced: Assisting Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club in its clean-up; donating cash to the relief fund; keeping the clubhouse open for members to eat, shower and relax and permitting the course to be used as a heli-pad for stranded people needing to leave town.

Darren Cooke, the director of golf, acted as ground crew for the helicopters, escorting passengers through their parking lot full of water to tee decks above the water level where the helicopters could land. Darren, through casual conversation with passengers, found people were being lifted to the Casino, Springbank and international airport and even as far as Red Deer.”

Steve Young, Canmore Leader

When Kananaskis Country Golf Course closed for the season, it assisted other golf courses and players in moving tee times, so visitors would not be displaced.  In return, area golf courses hired seasonal staff from Kananaskis Country to save jobs.

There are stories of clubs helping members with their personal homes, of helping people get to work and home.  Clean up is a messy business, but it wasn’t too dirty for the golf professionals, superintendents and staff who jumped in to help.

It’s what makes Canada so special, and why people return every year to play, and enjoy.  Beyond its beautiful scenery is a community of passionate believers who band together to get back on their feet in times of trouble.

We’re eternally grateful for that kind of support.   And hope you’ll support our golf courses as we help Alberta recover.
